The Healthcare Marketing Challenge
Healthcare is one of the most competitive and sensitive categories in digital marketing. Patients research extensively before choosing a healthcare provider, trust is paramount, and the regulatory environment requires careful messaging. When a Hyderabad-based multispecialty hospital group approached us, they were getting most of their patients from walk-ins and doctor referrals — with almost no digital presence generating new patient enquiries.
Their goals: 300+ new patient enquiries per month from digital channels within 12 months, predominantly for their high-value specialties (cardiology, orthopaedics, and oncology).
Phase 1: Audit and Strategy
The hospital had a website that was not mobile-optimised, had no booking functionality, and ranked for essentially no keywords. Their Google My Business profiles for their three locations were unclaimed. They had two Instagram posts from 2023 and a Facebook page with 340 followers.
Our strategy identified three parallel workstreams: local SEO to capture patients actively searching for specialists in Hyderabad, Google Ads for immediate high-intent traffic, and content marketing to build trust and authority with prospective patients researching health conditions.
Phase 2: Local SEO for Healthcare
Healthcare has some unique local SEO requirements. We claimed and fully optimised Google Business Profiles for all three hospital locations. Each profile got complete information: specialty departments listed as services, doctor profiles in the "Products" section, appointment booking links, and over 40 photos of the facilities, equipment, and doctors.
We then implemented a systematic patient review program — after discharge, patients received a WhatsApp message (with opt-in consent) inviting them to leave a Google review. Within four months, all three locations had over 200 Google reviews with an average rating of 4.7.
Result: All three locations appeared in the Google Maps Pack for their priority specialties within 90 days.
Phase 3: Google Ads for Patient Acquisition
We built separate ad campaigns for each specialty: "cardiologist in Hyderabad," "orthopaedic surgeon Hyderabad," "cancer treatment Hyderabad." Each campaign had dedicated landing pages for each specialty — not just the homepage. Landing pages included doctor profiles, facility photos, patient testimonials, and a prominent appointment booking form.
We set up conversion tracking for form submissions and phone calls. This was critical — without it, we could not determine which keywords and ads were generating actual patient enquiries vs just website traffic.
Phase 4: Trust-Building Content
For healthcare, trust-building content is especially important. We published 20 doctor-authored blog posts covering the hospital's key specialties: "Warning signs of heart disease you should not ignore," "When to see an orthopaedic surgeon vs a physiotherapist," "Understanding cancer screening guidelines for Indians." These established the hospital's doctors as authorities and ranked for informational searches from patients researching symptoms.
The 12-Month Results
- Patient enquiries from digital: 14/month → 547/month
- Appointment bookings from digital: 6/month → 280/month
- Google Maps impressions: 2,300/month → 89,000/month
- Organic website traffic: 340/month → 22,400/month
- Cost per patient enquiry (Google Ads): ₹3,200 → ₹480
The hospital group expanded our engagement to two additional locations within 12 months.
