What Clients Should Expect in the First 90 Days With a Digital Marketing Agency

The First 90 Days: Setting Realistic Expectations

One of the most common reasons client-agency relationships fail is misaligned expectations in the first 90 days. Clients expect immediate results; agencies are still doing foundational work. The gap between these expectations leads to frustration, early termination, and missed opportunities.

At MKSON WORLD, we brief every new client on what the first 90 days will look like before we start. Transparency upfront saves everyone time and builds trust. Here is our honest breakdown.

Month 1: Discovery and Foundation

In the first month, we are learning your business deeply — not running ads or publishing content yet. We audit everything: your website, your existing Google Ads account (if any), your SEO standing, your social media presence, and your competitors. We run interviews with you and sometimes your sales team to understand your best customers, your biggest deals, and what makes you different from competitors.

By the end of month 1, you will receive a detailed strategy document: which channels we recommend, why, with what budget allocation, and what our 6-month targets are. This is not a vague plan — it is specific and measurable.

You will not see measurable results in month 1. This is normal. The alternative — jumping straight into execution without understanding your business — leads to mediocre results for months before anyone admits the strategy was wrong.

Month 2: Launch and Early Data

Month 2 is execution: website fixes get implemented, campaigns launch, content starts publishing, social media management begins. For paid advertising, we set conservative budgets in the first month and gather data before scaling. For SEO and content, we publish the first batch of optimised content and implement technical fixes.

By the end of month 2, you will have your first real data: which ads are getting clicks, which keywords are driving traffic, what your early cost-per-lead looks like. It will not be fully optimised yet, but you will see the direction things are heading.

Month 3: Optimisation and Early Results

Month 3 is where the work from months 1 and 2 starts showing results. Paid campaigns are now optimised based on real data. SEO changes from month 2 start showing in Google Search Console. Content starts accumulating organic traffic.

Realistic expectations by end of month 3: paid campaigns are hitting target cost-per-lead, organic traffic is growing (15-30% above baseline), and the overall direction is clear. Not every metric will be where you want it — digital marketing optimises over time, not instantly.

What to Ask Your Agency in the First 90 Days

  • What are our specific KPI targets for the next 6 months?
  • What does success look like at 90 days, 6 months, and 12 months?
  • How will I receive updates and how often?
  • Who is my primary contact and what is their response time for urgent matters?
  • What decisions require my approval?

Red Flags in the First 90 Days

If an agency cannot explain what they are doing and why, that is a red flag. If they cannot tell you what your current baseline metrics are, they cannot measure improvement. If they promise specific rankings or lead volumes with guarantees, be cautious — no ethical agency can guarantee these outcomes. If they stop communicating proactively, something is wrong.

How We Handle Onboarding at MKSON WORLD

Every client gets a 90-day plan document before we start, a dedicated strategy call at the end of each month, a live reporting dashboard from week one, and a clear escalation path if any issue arises. We build relationships that last years, not months. Start a conversation about what we can build for your business.
